About the author
Katie Thear, B.A. (Hons), Cert. Ed. was a well known author and successful keeper of poultry and waterfowl. Katie published and edited Country Smallholding for many years and was a regular contributor to the magazine. She authored many books on poultry, livestock and smallholding topics, and had also broadcast and lectured in the UK and USA. Katie advised the RSPCA Freedom Foods on its standards for commercial duck production, and was also on the committee of the Soil Association organic standards for poultry.
